your hosts

After meeting in London in 2015, François and JD travelled the world extensively, and stayed in some of the most unique and extraordinary homes, lodges and hotels across the globe – ranging from quaint backpackers to sophisticated high-end resorts. They launched their first property, Starry Starry Night Route 62, during the middle of lockdown in 2020. Located just outside Montagu in the Little Karoo, the couple fell in love with this fynbos wilderness tucked away in the Langeberg Mountains when they longed for space, freedom of movement mountain and somewhere vast enough that your soul could breathe. Measuring in at nearly 400ha and with a pristine river running through it, refreshing natural rock pools, and truly breathtaking views in all directions, Starry Starry Night Route62 checked all the boxes of the "dream property".

"We adore our little piece of mountain paradise, but both of us are also pretty crazy about the sea, especially François who might have been a dolphin in a former life," says co-owner JD smilingly. "With our new seaside home we fell in love with how close the house is to the dazzling Atlantic ocean - litterally down the road - not to mention its proximity to a number of other major attractions in the city."

According to JD the vision was to create a cozy seaside home-away-from-home for their family, which includes husband François, daughter Isabella and son, Matisse. "We wanted to take all that makes our mountain lodge unique, special and magical and inject that into our seaside home, with a fresh ocean-inspired twist," he adds. "It brings me great joy that we are able to share our special place with guests from across the country and globe, where they will make beautiful new memories," JD concludes.
